St. Maria Goretti Catholic School is a Catholic elementary school for preschool through eighth grade students, rooted in the Catholic tradition, committed to academic excellence and the joyful pursuit of faith, virtue, and love.
The faculty and staff of St. Maria Goretti Catholic School share in the teaching ministry of our parish, to bring Christ's message to our students. We believe that every child is a unique creation of God, worthy of the opportunity to develop to his/her fullest potential in a safe and caring environment.
We will provide our students with prayer and worship experiences, high academic standards, service opportunities and guidance and support toward healthy personal growth.
We recognize and value the partnership that parents and teachers have in the successful education of all students. As members of the St. Maria Goretti Catholic School community, we embrace these responsibilities of our teaching ministry.
At St. Maria Goretti, our focus on faith-formation, academic excellence and training in virtue frees and equips students to be lights in the world, amidst the growing secularism of the culture today. We desire to cooperate with parents, the primary educators of their children, in handing on the gift of faith, “the pearl of great price”, to our children and grandchildren for generations to come (Mt. 13:46).
At St. Maria Goretti, the gift of faith is nurtured in each student through evangelization, catechesis and a rich sacramental life, leading students to grow in their relationship with Christ and His Church.
At St. Maria Goretti we educate and form students in truth and virtue, equipping them for authentic freedom and happiness.
At St. Maria Goretti we seek to encounter God who loved us first, and help students learn to love as God loves, through vibrant community life and selfless service.
Original classrooms for the school were in the Parish Center building, which was built in 1961 at the corner of Flad Ave. and Gilbert Rd. Four sisters from the order of Oblates to Divine Love (now known as Sister Oblates to the Blessed Trinity) came from New York and were the school's first teachers.
St. Maria Goretti Catholic School opened in 1964 with 87 students in grades 3 through 5. Eight classrooms were added in 1965, serving grades 3 through 6; grade 7 was added in 1966, grade 8 in 1967, grades 1 and 2 in 1968 and finally kindergarten in 1980. Music and art rooms were added to the building in 1980.
In 2002, the school began the Early Childhood program serving preschoolers. A new wing was added to the building in 2003, creating more space for gathering and classrooms as well as the construction of the gym with a full-size basketball court, 2 volleyball courts and bleachers.
In 2022, the school adopted the Virtues in Practice program (created by the Nashville Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia) as well as a renewed focus to love and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. Students and staff continue to seek to listen and spread the Good News. Our fundamental mission as Catholics is a fervent call to evangelization where the souls of students and families grow closer to Christ.
