Barb Schmiesing began teaching at St. Maria Goretti in the fall of 2024.
She grew up on a dairy farm in southern Wisconsin. She earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Math from UW-Platteville. She then taught 4th grade and coached cross country and basketball for 5 years.
Barb met her husband, Scott, on a high school basketball court 28 years ago. They both were teachers and knew that Jesus was missing in their children's education. They prayed for a Christian community to raise their children and God answered that prayer. They have been blessed to be a part of Holy Family Homeschoolers, St. Ambrose Academy, and Divine Mercy Academy, and have been parishioners of Divine Mercy Pastorate for the past 10 years.
Barb homeschooled their 8 children (Justin 25, Celine 23, Addy 22, Brent 20, Joe 18, Michael 16, Sydnee 13, and Evie 9) through 5th grade for 17 years. Then she taught for 3 years at Divine Mercy Academy. She now looks forward to being part of the team at St. Maria Goretti Catholic School.
She enjoys many sporting activities, coaching basketball for MAISL teams, spending time with family and friends, and gardening in the summer.
