Courtney Berkowitz began working at St. Maria Goretti in 2023.
Courtney grew up in a northwest suburb of Chicago, but fell in love with Wisconsin during summers spent in Door County beginning at the age of 12 years old. After earning a bachelor's degree in Marketing from Boston College, Courtney moved to Austin, Texas to be a college recruiter at a software company. She soon realized that college recruiting was not her passion and returned to school at the University of Texas - Austin to pursue a teaching certificate in elementary education.
Since completing her certification in 2004, Courtney has spent many years in the classroom teaching preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. Before moving to Madison in February 2023, Courtney focused on kindergarten reading at Highland Park Elementary in the Austin Independent School District. Courtney has been trained in Neuhaus’ Reading Readiness and Basic Language Skills 1, an Orton-Gillingham based therapy level curriculum. She is passionate about teaching all young children to read and offering support and resources to families of learners with dyslexia.
Courtney and her husband Jonathan have two children, Aiden (14) and Sydney (12). They live in Middleton, Wisconsin and love exploring all the wonderful outdoor spaces in and around Madison and trying new restaurants as well. In her free time, Courtney can be found either at Bob Suter’s Capitol Ice Area watching Aiden play hockey or at Sydney’s various school extracurricular activities. She recently learned to crochet and enjoys making blankets for friends and family. Courtney also loves to read and take their goldendoodle, Belle, for long walks.
Courtney is excited to be a part of the community at St. Maria Goretti.
