Youngjoo Hong comes to St. Maria Goretti pleased for the 2024-2025 academic year as a Music Teacher.
She will teach kindergarten through 4th grade general and choral music.
Hong grew up in Seoul, South Korea before she came to Madison Wisconsin with her husband who wanted to pursue his doctoral degree in UW - Madison. She gave a birth and raised two wonderful daughters while he received his doctoral degree. Once her two daughters became school aged students, she received my second bachelor’s degree (her first bachelor’s degree being in Clothing and Textiles at Yonsei University, Seoul South Korea) in music education from the School of Music at UW-Madison, with a teaching license for General Music (K-12) and a Choral music (6-12). Her career as a music teacher started at the Kromrey Middle School teaching a general music classes (7th grader) and choir classes (8th grade) part-time. She also taught kindergarten music classes at the Northside Elementary school then, became a full-time music teacher at Sunset Ridge elementary School in Middleton for 13 years. For the last 3 years, she also taught at the Elm Lawn Elementary School. After that, she entered the graduate program at the School of Music at UW-Madison and earned a master’s degree majoring voice in 2020. And, she’s been teaching piano and voice classes at the local music academy for last three years.
Hong has also worked for Catholic churches in various ways. She’s directed a choir at the Korean Catholic Community of Madison for 30 years, which has had weekly masses at St Paul’s Catholic Student Center. Currently, she occasionally serves as a cantor at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Church. During her free time, she loves to taking walks and playing golf.
She is very excited to teach music at the St. Maria Goretti School and looking forward to meeting wonderful students and staffs of the school. She is eager to start the school year and says, “Do not hesitate to say hi in passing!”
